Reliance Communications wants access to GSM spectrum for 21 circles
Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s Reliance Communications has applied for GSM spectrum in 21 out of a total 23 telecom circles in the country.
The original request was for just around six states in the country. The problem started after the company revealed having differences with the parent company of the CDMA technology Qualcomm.
RCL is now aiming to become a leading provider of mobile services in the country over the GSM technology.
The department of telecom has already informed the company that to get access to a large spectrum they might have to surrender some of its CDMA frequencies.
The company is already providing mobile services on the GSM spectrum in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and the Northeast.
