Star TV goes to court over Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ruling
STAR TV India has gone ahead and filed a petition in the courts against the recent announcement by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
The problem is the capping of the price at Rs. 5 per pay channel on the conditional access system.
The CAS is due to come into effect in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata from January 1, 2007. Star TV is not the only company, which finds this ruling controversial. Apparently, rivals Zee TV is also planning to go ahead and challenge this ruling in TDSAT.
Star TV India went directly to the Delhi High Court as they claim this announcement is a threat to the fundamental right of doing business.
The news was great news for the consumer in India as it controls the high price charged by the companies on their pay channels.
Maybe, the courts would respond by telling these channels that they can keep the prices they want to keep by totally eliminating advertisements from pay for channels. That would be nice.
