MTNL to launch its IPTV service for Rs 300 a month
Government owned telecom company MTNL has announced that they would be launching their IPTV service on Monday.
The company plans to make available this service for Rs. 300 a month. They would hence become the first Indian company to launch such a service. Incidentally, Bharti has been testing out IPTV service in certain locations in India since quite sometime.
MTNL would be showing around 20 channels initially in association with Mumbai-based IOL Broadband Ltd. They expect this service to provide as many as 250 channels in future.
The initial days would see this service being offered to its existing 2.2 million subscribers in Mumbai. Users would be able to receive video, voice and content through a single network. Ajay Jain, general manager marketing, MTNL spoke on this initiative: “Subscribers having MTNL’s tri-band connection will get a set-top box if they opt for IPTV package. Technically, MTNL provides two lines — phone and broadband. But from Saturday, it will be three-way and with the new wire going into the STB to offer IPTV.”
