Swisscom launches Bluewin TV service

Switzerland’s telecom company Swisscom has launched a new service which enables the customers to get TV-over-broadband.

This service has on offer more than 100 television channels and more than 70 radio stations.

The company said that customers of their high-speed Internet connections would now be able to watch and record those stations through its $24-a-month Bluewin TV service.

They would also provide the facility of video on demand but it would cost extra. The service is seeing a delayed launch as the company faced technical difficulties implementing the infrastructure and getting the software developed.

Swisscom spokesman Christian Neuhaus spoke on this launch: “We wanted to offer a mature service, so we worked on it for another year.”

Other European countries like France, Spain, Italy and Britain already have similar IPTV services. Unfortunately the service is not offering HD content as it would require at least 10 times the bandwidth.
