My friend lives in Gurgaon. And believe me he lives in one of the better areas of Gurgaon. And he does not have any option for a permanent connectivity. The local cable guy sucked so much that he ended up using his reliance phone most of the time to get connected to the net. So, in the end… he got the cable connection disconnected and reliance took back their phone because the phone bills amounted to something totally indigestible. In addition to the bill their billing software had due to a technical glitch added another 16000 bucks to the bill. As a result he almost suffered a stroke on receiving the bill. On the funnier side, the reliance guys wanted him to pay up the wrongly billed amount which they promised to settle up in the forthcoming months. Totally stupid and illogical advice from supposedly the biggest network of private telephone network in India today.

So, hurt and disgusted he turned to Tata Indicom. And well, the experience has been less than fulfilling here also. 5 days since he applied for the connection, he is still not connected. He was delivered the instrument day before with a promise of activation in 8 hrs. 2 days and the phone is still not activated. And then there is this friend of mine who’s outgoing was blocked due to non-payment of bills. The problem here was that the bill never reached my friend’s place.

I saw in advertisements that a Tata Indicom phone gives a connectivity of 110 kbps on their telephones. But my friends in Delhi who use it tell me that the average speeds they get on usage lies around 4-5 KBps. That’s around 32-48 kbps. My Sify Broadband connection is only just about workable during the day times. But at least it cost just 600 bucks a month as compared to 1500 bucks a month for the Tata Indicom connection.

Where the hell is the broadband revolution that is talked about in the news media? Is it affordable to only rich and famous? Or big companies with their leased lines? Sify’s just about broadband packages cost nearly 2.50 INR per megabyte of data transferred. That is like shit when we compare to other countries. People are reaching megabytes per second of data transfer speeds and they sell broadband in the name of connections that hardly reach 10 KBps!

Duh.

I agree completely. Indian broadband situation sucks. I am in Hong Kong where for the same price we get about 2-3Mbps speed.

reliance really sucks, specially with their billing.
I think the ambani’s are not happy with what they have got they would like to sqeeze more from their customers like our big blue brother.
India is in a shit hole when it comes to internet connectivity and they say internationale narrow band is broadband in India. for which you have to pay through your rear end.
