BSNL to spend Rs 2,000 crore on broadband infrastructure
BSNL has already announced their plans to enhance the internet speeds of their customers to up to 2 mbps starting next year.
The company has now said that they would be investing about Rs 2,000 crore to augment its broadband infrastructure in urban and rural areas.
A K Sinha, CMD of BSNL spoke on their plans: “We will invest Rs 1200-1500 crore for expanding our broadband network in urban areas while about Rs 500 crore would be invested in rural areas.”
Their new offer would benefit as many as 8.2 lakh broadband users and is also expected to bring in many more. BSNL is also expected to add 5 million port capacity to the existing network of 1 million ports.
For rural regions, they are planning to use WiMax technology to cater to their users where broadband connection over copper lines is not possible. BSNL is planning to add 1000 Wimax towers by the middle of next year which would cover as many as 20,000-30,000 villages.
BSNL (or any Internet solutions provider) would start raking in when they stop charging for downloads.
It defeats the essence of an “always on” connection! I would turn it off when I don’t want to surf just to save money!
