Chunghwa Telecom: Two to three weeks for fixing new services in Asia
Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom has said that two ships are soon going to start working on fixing the undersea cables which were damaged recently in an earthquake.
This damage resulted in a major disruption to telephone and Internet links across Asia. While the services have been restored in all the major areas, the connectivity is buggy and slow.
Wu Chih-ming, a senior official at Chunghwa Telecom said that the repair work would take 2-3 weeks time.
He said: “The ships are expected to arrive in Taiwan today and tomorrow and will work at sea over the next two weeks.”
Two more ships are expected to join the work in the coming days. Ha Yung-kuen of the Telecommunications Authority added: “There was no major congestion this morning. The situation is better than we thought.”
