TDSAT want TRAI to fix prices of television channels under DTH
The Telecom Disputes Settlement And Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) in India has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to consider fixing the price of television channels under the Direct to Home (DTH) service.
This would be in a similar fashion to how the channel prices have been fixed at a maximum rate of Rs. 5 per channel under CAS (Conditional Access System).
Justice Arun Kumar, chairman of TDSAT said in a statement: “For CAS, you have come out with an order of Rs 5 per channel but for DTH, you do not have any plans like that.”
He further said that considering the prices are not fixed right now; DTH players are constantly fighting amongst themselves. TRAI has been told to file a reply within two weeks.
Considering the differences in prices of channels on CAS and DTH services, there is a differential pricing systems from these operators in different regions. Tata Sky for example is giving out 6 months free rentals for their customers who are located in areas where CAS has been implemented.
