Spice Telecom to launch a super cheap mobile phone product

India is one of the fastest growing mobile phone markets in the world and availability of cheap mobile handsets is one of the primary reasons for their popularity in the region.

Nokia, Motorola and other mobile phone makers are already in the process of setting up their units here in India to manufacture and sell cheap mobile phones.

Now, Spice Telecom has announced that they would launch a low-cost ‘Janta’ mobile phone for less than USD 20.

This phone should be out in the retail market by March this year. Spice plans to initially target railway passengers to market the phone. B K Modi, chairman MCorp Global said in a statement: “The price of such phones sold in railway stations would be lower by 10 to 15 per cent compared to the ones sold outside.”

They would also be selling a sim card with the phone for just Rs. 50.
