CAS coming to more cities including Gurgaon and Noida
Consumers in the metro cities are still facing issues with the recently introduced CAS mechanism for cable television. It seems like the government is unconcerned with these issues and are planning to expand this coverage to other cities in the country.
Some of the cities where CAS would be implemented in staged phase in the coming days are: Ahmadabad, Bhopal, Pune, Indore, Noida and Gurgaon.
Priyaranjan Das Munshi, minister for information and broadcasting spoke on this new development: “Discussions on the matter are on and a comprehensive decision will be taken by the first week of February.”
Both consumers and broadcasters have together opposed this government ruling forcing them to upgrade to CAS from their existing cable connections.
Customers are being supplied set top boxes of old technologies which does not support the latest features. Few operators are providing these boxes on rent. As a result, most people have to purchase the STBs taking the risk of ending up with a dead or outdated box as the new features are introduced in the market.
We in Gurgaon are waiting for Airtel to launch their IPTV services so that we do not have to end up getting a CAS based cable connection.
