Repair work delayed again on the quake-hit Asia Internet cables
The Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) has said that bad weather continues to delay the repair work going on to fix the undersea cables damaged last year by an earthquake.
The damage affected the online services in several Asian countries. OFTA said in a statement that most of the seven submarine cables have now been fixed but that one will take longer than estimated.
They had earlier expected to complete the repair work by the middle of February. However, it is likely to take some more days.
OFTA Director General Au Man-ho added: “The repair work of one section of a cable will now complete by the end of next month. Bad weather, technical problems and other reasons are causing the delay. According to our reports from the providers, all services have largely been resumed back to normal — it’s approaching 100 percent.”
The damage caused internet issues in several nations including Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and also in India.
