DataFox: Firefox Extension to monitor bandwidth usage on BSNL DataOne
A member of the Indian Broadband Forum, Brian Fernandes has released the first public release of a Mozilla Firefox browser extension which helps the customers of BSNL DataOne broadband connection to monitor their usage.
The extension works with Mozilla Firefox versions 1.5, 2.x and even the test release versions of Firefox 3.
This little tool for the Firefox browser works by obtaining usage information directly from the BSNL usage site. It does not monitor the network usage of the customer.
The author of this extension has plans to add more features in the version 1 of this extension:
A bar chart type display in your status bar, indicative of how much bandwidth you’ve used, and if you’re already over your limit - probably calculated using the average bandwidth available per day.
Multi window support - Currently DataFox instances in separate Firefox windows are independent of each other, I’ll be tying these multiple instances together so that it’s a little more efficient.
And as with most other Firefox extensions, Firefox would be able to check for any updates to this tool automatically and inform the user if an update is available.
