WiMAX expected to become popular in developing markets
Market experts believe that the higher-speed WiMAX is expected to become popular in the emerging markets for accessing the net in rural and remote areas.
The initiative would be supported by the mobile phone companies which are increasingly launched new solutions capable of enabling internet access on mobile devices.
David Taylor, director of strategic operations high-growth markets in the mobile devices division of Motorola said in a statement: “We will see some operators in emerging markets upgrade their cellular networks to support lower-speed data services such as e-mail, but there is a very strong case for deploying WiMAX to provide high-speed Internet services in these regions.”
WiMAX is a new generation technology which requires fewer base stations than 3G. analysts claim that these stations are cheaper and they also consume less energy.
The speeds of WiMAX networks are also much faster than traditional mobile technologies making them suitable for covering larger areas.
