MTNL told to reduce infrastructure charges
Telecom tribunal TDSAT has stated in a ruling to the state owned telecom company MTNL that it would have to reduce infrastructure charges collected from private operators.
The TDSAT has also in addition asked the TRAI to frame guidelines for fixation of such charges.
This ruling was as a result of two separate cases brought to it by telecom operators in the country Reliance Infocomm Ltd and BPL Mobile.
Justice Arun Kumar said in a ruling that MTNL has increased these charges exorbitantly by about five-fold within three years in an “arbitrary and unreasonable manner”.
Reliance Infocomm has since become Reliance Communications. This is good news for the private telecom operators in the country who have to pay these fees to the government owned telecom companies.
