IBM gets a mega order from Idea Cellular
US based tech giant IBM has announced that they have won a 10-year contract to manage the information technology infrastructure of Indian mobile service provider Idea Cellular.
The deal is said to be worth between $600 million and $800 million. Idea Cellular has around 14 million subscribers in the country and is set to grow massively as they face new competition from the entry of Vodafone in the market.
This agreement between Idea and IBM covers its existing operations and potential new additions. It also covers some back office operations.
IBM has already revealed their plans to expand their operations in the Indian market. The company is due to make investments worth USD 6 billion here in India.
IBM said in a statement on this new deal that the agreement calls for the company to get paid more for its services if Idea’s revenues grow faster than certain forecasts.
