TCS working with Qualcomm to develop wireless applications for Indian farmers

Mobile technology developers Qualcomm are working with Indian tech firm Tata Consultancy Services to create next generation wireless applications for Indian farmers.

These solutions would be based on Qualcomm’s own CDMA-based mobile devices.

The companies said that by using WCDMA, the 3G mobile communication standard will have a market among the millions of Indian farmers.

This is also going to help the CDMA telecom service providers in the country to expand their subscriber base. They aim to have this next generation network in place by next year.

The software applications to use this network would be developed by TCS.

Nikhil Jain, the chief technology advisor of Qualcomm said that the mobile phones are much more friendly to use compared to computers for a regular farmer in the country. He said: “Also, for an uneducated farmer, mobile is much easier to use compared with a PC.”
