Hutch, Aircel could be in trouble for launching push-to-talk services
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has now issued show cause notices to Hutch and Aircel mobile service providers in India related to their push-to-talk (PTT) services in the country.
The DoT has claimed in the notice that the two companies are violating the terms and conditions of the cellular mobile telephone service (CMTS) license by launching this service which is not covered by it.
They are claiming that the two companies did not take prior approval for launching the services. In addition, the DoT has claimed that the two companies are “possibly not provided monitoring or interception facilities as needed by the security requirement”.
Hutch-Essar is providing this service in Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Karnataka, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh (West). Aircel has similar services available to their customers in UP (East) and Rajasthan.
