3G policy might be announced sometime this month
The Indian government might announce their much awaited 3G policy sometime this month. This is now possible as the defense ministry has agreed to vacate 40 MHz spectrum by July.
Department of Telecommunications (DoT) secretary DS Mathur said in a statement: “The 3G policy will come very soon hopefully by the month-end.”
Mathur added in his statement that they were in talks with the Air Force to vacate 45 MHz spectrum for telecom services and it should now be available by July this year.
He further said: “The work of shifting defense to an alternative spectrum band is on progress and hopefully by July most of it will be over.”
Opening of the 3G market in India would enable the mobile service providers to launch high-speed data download and interactive services like video gaming and stock trading.
