TRAI proposes setting up of a National-Do-Not-Call Registry

If you too hate the number of times you get calls from one of those irritating telesales people, there is some hope for us.

The Telecom regulator TRAI has now proposed setting up of a National-Do-Not-Call Registry which could save us from these unsolicited phone calls.

TRAI has recommended that the telecom companies in India would have to setup a mechanism through which their customers can opt to get listed on this registry.

Telemarketing companies would be barred from calling these numbers and violating parties could be fined as much as Rs 500-1,000 per call.

This would be a boon for the mobile customers in the country. Similar Do Not Call registries are already present in several nations around the world and now India could have one of its own.
