India could allow international players to bid for 3G licenses
India based business daily Mint has reported that the Indian government could allow international telecom players to bid for 3G licenses in the country.
The paper quoted the Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran as saying: “We want new international players to come to India and offer their services.”
Maran had previously said that they want to make sure that the 3G services are launched in the country by the second half of this year.
India already has around 12 players providing telecom and mobile services in the country though Maran said: “The auction for 3G spectrum will be completely distinct from the existing mobile licenses and services.”
The Indian mobile user has been waiting for the launch of these 3G services since many years now. There are even talks about possibly jumping straight to 4G as the launch of 3G in India has been delayed a little too much.
