Dayanidhi Maran aims to make broadband free

India’s communications & IT minister Dayanidhi Maran has said in a statement that they are now looking at ways to make available broadband connectivity for free.

He has already succeeded in getting the telecom companies to offer local and domestic long-distance phone call tariffs at Rs. 1 per minute.

He also talked about the possibility of having a free telephone connection for users from BSNL/MTNL who own multiple mobile connections.

He said: “Efforts are being made by BSNL and MTNL to start web hosting. At the moment, all traffic generated in India terminates outside and we should try to terminate these within the country.”

BSNL and MTNL currently 2 mbps connectivity with sad data transfer limits to their customers at cheap prices. They also offer unlimited data transfer packages but these accounts do not offer 2 mbps speeds. This is despite the fact that the companies announced that all of their packages are now upgraded to speeds of 2 mbps.
