Providing security software? Bring it on…

So, Sify still is adamant on forcing its security software on me. And this is when they hopelessly fail to provide what the real job for the company is. I have seen it all in my 9 months with Sify Broadband and they touch a new high almost every week. The local CTO has no ideas what they have on their hand next month… They have to convince every user around here to uninstall their basic security software and get SecureSynergy instead. Might not matter to uncles and aunties around here… But what about the people who know what computer security is!
I have not read any favorable review on the internet related to SecureSynergy. And is Sify indeed succeeds in getting it installed on user’s systems… They would obviously have to provide support too. And my net guy who fails to even fix my internet problems in hours… what do I expect from him in case a virus attacks my PC and damage the existing data… I am so looking forward to that situation. Because since the last 2 days, net has been shit. It has been down since 4 hours now. This post is being written offline while I wait for the net guy to fix it.
The humor in the situation is that he lacks the equipment to find the faults in the line. He needs a guy with a laptop to check the network position at every pole that Sify has installed to spread the network. And he does not have it. His phone always is out of cash value so he insists on making blank calls expecting me to call him back to get my problem solved. All this with no fault of his. The guy who should be helping him is out since days with his mobile turned off. I have absolutely no contact with the CTO because he complains I call him too many times.
This is something what I am used to. I am waiting for the problems that occur after I install SecureSynergy on Sify’s recommendation. And here is a mail I sent to a couple of Sify people and guys who responded to my call to protest against Sify’s move…
The mail goes like this:
Hi,
Maybe before you enter the market of providing security software to the Sify broadband customers, you can provide them decent connectivity and the people responsible for the network, proper equipment. Since last 2 days, my net has been unreliable with problems in the network. No big deal. It happened almost after 2 weeks of solid connectivity. But the problem is… 2 days have passed by and the problem still exists. Breaking pings, no power backup… Both things I have struggled in the past occurred today.
The guy who come to fix the net does not have a laptop so, he find it tough to locate the problem. The laptop is lying with some Mr. Bobby who is unavailable since some days. Ashwini the next guy does not like me calling him, so I do not. And from my past experience I have noticed that wasting time calling the CTO again and again seldom helps with problems that stretches for days. Last time it lasted for a week before Girish came from Chandigarh with a Laptop and spent the day here getting the local network fixed. Looks like, contacting Sify is the only way getting my net fixed. And this is just related to Internet Connectivity. Luckily it seems to be fixed for the moment. Though I have enough time till tomm morning to check it out!
What will happen when we install SecureSynergy and some virus causes hovac on our system. How long will he take to fix my system and recover me my data. Coz I will call him to fix it for me considering Sify is taking the responsibility of my System’s security by getting me to remove my anti-virus software and installing something that they recommend…
So, will you appoint separate SecureSynergy experts to solve our PC Virus Problems? Or these CTOs will take that responsibility too?
I am waiting to get an answer…
Also I would like to get it in writing that the software Sify is forcing me to install… contain no Spyware, Keylogging utility, or anything that compromise my security. And it does not keep track of what and when I do what on my computer or on the Internet. Coz that goes against my rights of privacy.
regards,
Sushubh

maan did u try call up the tele support and tell them that u won’t like to uninstall yr AV. They will remove the check and then u can login using ur own trusted AV. I too was pissed when I first thought of it. but luckly the first time I was impressed by the Sify tetesupp ppl. I cudn’t beleiev myself, contrary to every other time, when ends me up in cursing them more.
Nehow…the client as any1 who uses it can tell is one peice of bs. Dunno why programmer always live away from the reality. the proggy simply sucks big time!

Well, my deadline in chandigarh starts from next month. And another user who mailed me actually got this response:
“Sir, I doubt you own your copy of the AntiVirus”
And he responded by saying that he used free but excellend AVG… this made no effect on them. Maybe you got a more informed call center guy… But still it is offensive to have that option on… CTOs should be told to install the free software on consumer’s systems which lack ANY antivirus. Because they are the users with systems who gets affected by network choking worms and viruses…
Perhaps this is true. But I still need the “NO AUTOLOG OUT” option…

yes i agree… i was lucky. but simply tell them u can’t u won’t or maybe yr office admin has installed it and can’t be uninstalled being a corporate machine.
secondly as b4 client sucks… auto logout etc auto popup browser to sify site … worst UI…. can move the winow. the ugly icon over lapping the screen.. etc etc.. the list goes on and on
p.s. never trouble yr local cto.. they are nothingz in this supply chain beyond cable provider. let them be in peace and bang yr head with tele suppt. p.s. did u try the linux clinet? how well does it work?

thats what i plan to do…
currently i am just mailing to the people i actually have had quiet some long discussions in the past related to the quality of the net in my area… so get better contacts than jsut some call center guy…
i know the client would suck. so am not even trying it as long as i can avoid.
local CTO? I dont even have one. the guy who installed the net at my place now claims he has no relations with Sify. so the next guy is about 4 KMs from here in a different sector all toghether.
linux… if conditions stays like this i will MOVE to linux altoghether. just need that push… :D
