As many as 4 Sify users have wrote to me that there indeed is a special hidden loophole in the Sify Broadband’s Shared unlimited download package. It runs at the promised speeds of 48kbps for the first 700 Megs data transfer and after that, the pipeline is squeezed even more and the bandwidth is squeezed to a sadistic 16-32 kbps line. I never actually found it that ways…

But this might be due to the fact that my experiences with Sify have been so horrible… that as long as my net is working, I do not care about the speed issues. I do remember one time when the speeds were atrociously slow (it was failing to touch KB mark)… and the call center guy did tell me that shared bandwidth does not guarantee speeds of 32-48 kbps and I should move on to a faster package… and as cynical I am… I am getting the feeling that it is true that they lure the users with faster speeds in the beginning and then freak them out later on with reduced speeds…

My package expired yesterday. I was getting speeds of hardly 3-4 KBps till then. Today I am reaching 5-6 KBps easily on this freshly renewed account… Now this really gets me into believing the logic… maybe other users are more considerate and alert on what speeds they do get from their net connection… and when do the pipelines dry down…

This also explains the fact that why they never responded to my request for a net package that offers higher speeds (at least 64 kbps line) with unlimited data transfer capability for a more reasonable price tag or around 1200-1500 rupees. Spectranet do provide a similar rated package which does perform a lot better than Sify’s connection… For how long would they torture us with limited data transfer packages for high speeds? Is broadband restricted to checking mails? Or do we deserve to watch live video telecasts online? Which actually is broadband in reality! At 2.50 rupees per megabyte, broadband tastes bitter and indigestible.
