Vodafone finally acquires the stake in Hutchison Essar

UK based mobile service provider Vodafone has confirmed that they have finally acquired the stake in the Indian mobile company Hutchison Essar.

The company added that they are paying $10.9 billion rather than the $11.1 billion originally envisaged for their stake in the Indian company.

The decreased cost is related to their agreement to bear up all the charges related to exercising options over a 15 per cent stake in Hutchison Essar.

Vodafone would be owning 52 per cent of Hutchison Essar directly. The company would further have the option to get another 15 per cent stake in the company owned by three parties.

Arun Sarin, Vodafone’s chief executive spoke on this new development: “I am confident that the Hutch Essar business will make a major contribution to the Vodafone group over the coming years.”
