Because they are not enforcing it. It is just for the benefits of the users who do not have any sort of PC Security on their system (if you are a heavy net user, it is comparable to having unsafe sex!). You just need to call the call center and tell them to remove the compulsion from your system’s IP. This will let you use your version of Antivirus. Good enough… But the software in the current form lacks an option to disable auto logout facility… though they promised they will look into it.

What can be the reasons for auto logout facility? Well, first one is perhaps security which does not hold true because if I am logged on and my system is on as well, no one else can use my IP to connect to the network and use my bandwidth… And if my system is off, I cannot any longer be logged in as the software would be off too… and if they have designed it will, it will log me out when it closes. Another one can be perhaps… Wastage of package time for people with limited hours of connectivity. But what about us? The users who are online 24×7! We don’t need Sify to save hours of lost bandwidth, coz I am not paying by the hour… I DO NEED that no-auto-logout option before I find that software any useful…

Also, I would like if the language on the instruction pages can be a bit more comprehensive as they do not mention anything about how to skip installing SecureSynergy while loading the client… This in the end is not very informative to the end users…

Thank you for telling me this, i was amazed yesterday that they force u to take their Security program
Ive been a bad boy a while ago in my life, coding trojan horses and other nasty stuff and i know which AntiVirus is considered good or bad and McAffee, also this piece of sftware does not protect new releases of virus very well
Anyway, i called them with less anger since i read your comments and asked them polite to remove that nasty program so i can get my own AV software back to work :)

The logout facilityis yet still a pain in the butt, i have shared unlimited connection and i wish to be online as long as i wanted; they said they will check into that but i think the first few years this problem will not go away

Sify showed me again that they are nowhere near a good ISP

    ps.
There is a permanent icon, on the middle-right of my desktop all the time, its floathing and its on top of EVERYTHING i open (browser, games, etc etc) is this a bug?

I have not yet installed it. But if they make me see their buttons permanently, I would again go back to them arguing to fix the bullshit. This is not Sify iWay Cyber Cafes. This is my personal computer…

hey this appeared on the login page today, cudnt they think of putting it there earlier? now they have put it up but they termed it very stupidly……..

Dude, I had a long telephonic discussion with the customer care representative of chandigarh… gave him a piece of my mind to mention the loophole clearly on the login page…

my next aim is to get a NO LOG OUT option…

also, i heard the login client also puts up a permanently visible buttons to access sify services. i would hate it if it is true as well… looks like i have got more to get clarified…

    So.. what to do now?
I called, they asked my IP and they said: ok, u not need that AV of us anymore

So..when i come home..and i want to install the client.. there will be again no option to choose from: yes, i want the security or no… right?
so we need to dig into the system and registry to get it done?>

ok.. so i came home, and i installed the client again and ,.AMAZINGLY, the AntiVirus did not installed with it

now only that damn automatic-session-expire thing that has to get lost and that icon that comes there sometimes… then sify is back to its old shitty self

    1. Atleast 1 problem is solved right!
    2. Auto Logoff… I will keep bothering them till the time it is fixed.
    3. And if they have icons to appear randomly on my desktop, again, they can expect my mails everyday…

  11. knakker | September 8th, 2004 at 04:01 pm

Somehow the icon thing seems to be not that bad at the moment, still its annoying though,
Now it doesnt floath on my browsers (IE,Opera) but it is still most of the time there, on the right in the middle.. sometimes it does dissapear totally though.

But the most annoyng part is that auto log off. i dont understand this way they put it
Session expired - messages alot, still internet keeps working then, but if internet goes off then there when there is a few seconds of no datatransfer
And i am highly annoyed by that blicking icon (nxt to the clock) of sify
They make themselves really populair with this junk …NOT

  12. Sushubh | September 8th, 2004 at 04:16 pm

Looks like I will install the application to test it myself. So, the software log you out automatically without any reason while surfing? If it does, please complaint to the Sify people… The mail ids are in the forum threads.

As for the blinking icon, well if you are on WIndows XP… You can make it hide using XP feature…

For all u idiots not wanting an anti-Virus for ur systems… Kiss ur PC goodbye. Any Norton user will tell you what a shitty software it really is. Full of bugs, viruses attacking norton itself its pathetic. Sify's AntiVirus is actually the ebst in the mkt today. i dont have to worry about updating it as everything in it is automatic. And before your unprotected systems cause network chocking of the Broadband , i advice u to use sify's antivirus.
