Bharti Foundation to provide funds to open 1000 village schools
Bharti Enterprises chief Sunil Bharti Mittal has said in a statement that the group is going to fund 1000 rural schools for girls with an investment of Rs 200 crore.
This would be part of their initiative to disseminate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s directive to the industry to accept social responsibility.
Mittal said: “Bharti has committed to set up 1000 village schools of which 200 are coming up in Punjab to be completely funded by the Group foundation.”
Mittal added that these schools are a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and there is no profit motive behind the venture.
He confirmed that twenty of these planned schools are already being constructed and they are going to completely fund the development process.
Mittal further said that the girl students in these schools would be given free uniform, books and mid day meals besides education.
