Airtel Broadband: Engineer visit to home to cost Rs. 100 per trip?

Airtel Broadband users would agree to one single fact that the service has been going downhill in the last couple of months.

Few users today get their much publicized night double speeds. Some of them get it after a manual modem reboot which was not required earlier. Most have stopped receiving it altogether.

The latest report in as mentioned by an Airtel Broadband customer on the India Broadband Forum is that the company is now stopping this scheme of providing double speeds to their customers at night time.

Another thing reported by the same customer is that Airtel Broadband is now going to charge Rs. 100 for every trip their engineer makes to your place to check their connection.

Airtel Broadband charging for technical support!

If this is true, nothing can be more absurd. It’s time we at TechWhack starts looking for alternatives to Airtel Broadband.

Yup, they said the same thing to me on Customer support when i called them up today to enquire about connectivity. They said they will send over an executive and charges billed to me. But funny part is that internet in whole of Rajasthan (airtel) is not working for 2 days (4th july 07 onwards) on the pretext that some cable is cut and whole north india is not working. So SHOULD I PAY FOR THE VISIT? No way… let the buggers bills me and they will face me in the competent courts of India.

This is sheer nuisance, they charge a monthly rental and this is their responsiblilty to keep the equipment up to date. Had i installed my own supplies they can bill me but all hardware and wires including modem and everything belongs to Airtel, they do not have any right to bill me for their services being substandard.
