BSNL employees set to go on strike this July 11
BSNL employees have announced that they are going to go on a strike this July 11 as they aim to pressurize the government into immediately awarding the contract of creating 45.5 million GSM lines to the selected vendors.
As many as 3.4 lakh BSNL employees could go on strike if the government does not manage to block this move.
The Joint Forum of BSNL and MTNL Unions said in a statement on their decision: “About 3.4 lakh BSNL employees and executives will go on a strike on July 11 demanding issue of purchase order for the 45.5 million GSM lines, for which tenders were finalized one year ago.”
They are also against the government’s reported proposal to reduce the original GSM tender by half. They say that such a move would make BSNL uncompetitive against the competition.
The forum had also claimed that BSNL could lose Rs 30,000 crore if the GSM tender was re-issued.
