Bharti Airtel to use UTStarcom solutions for their IPTV services
India already has two IPTV service providers in the form of MTNL and BSNL. Airtel is scheduled to launch their services soon and they have now collaborated with UTStarcom to provide the required networking solutions and services.
Bharti Airtel said in a statement that UTStarcom’s RollingStream solution would allow them to offer live TV broadcast and video-on-demand with existing broadband and voice services.
The company is planning to launch the service in Gurgaon and the national capital region (NCR) by the end of this year. The launch would see them providing around 150 channels.
Atul Bindal, president of Airtel Broadband and Telephone Services added in a statement that UTStarcom’s RollingStream solution is a proven and tested mechanism for IPTV services.
They are not alone working on launching IPTV services in India… Reliance Communications is also working hard on launching their own IPTV services by the end of the year.
In the end, it means more options for the end customer who can already choose between CAS and DTH service providers.
