India has 200 million+ mobile subscribers
India is already one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world. The country has now more than 200 million mobile customers.
India saw an addition of eight million new mobile customers last month and this helped them achieve this new milestone.
As per the latest reports, the country has a net mobile user base of 201.29 million at the end of August.
The feat is even more impressive considering it touched the 100 million mark in May 2006.
Bharti Airtel managed to add 2.05 million users in August. They now have a total subscriber base of 46.8 million.
The Indian government has set a target for the industry to achieve half a billion mobile phone subscribers by 2010.
With Vodafone entering the market by acquiring a majority stake in Hutch, it seems to be heading the right way.
