MTNL netPC by Novatium to cost Rs 4500
MTNL has announced that they would be launching a new scheme under which they would be providing interested customers a personal computer product for a low price of Rs. 4500.
This product has been named the netPC and they are going to supply them in partnership with Novatium.
The computing machine would be provided to the customer with a low cost internet connection.
This could help the company boost their internet subscribers in the country where a lot of people still find it hard to buy a PC.
MTNL said that these machines are basic no-frill products and they would be connected to a centralized server in the locality by MTNL and provide it with the internet service.
It features no central processor unit or a hard disk. Instead the data is stored on a localized server for access by the customer.
Novatium says about this product: “The netPC reaches to one’s home on a network cable just like a cable television service or broadband. Metro-ethernet deployments are quickly becoming a pervasive reality, and hence instead of just the internet broadband to your home, one can ask for a complete desktop with inbuilt internet access, educational packages, online games, chat, webcam, productivity suites and much more only served on the Nova netPC.”
Interestingly, they would be providing the customer options on choosing their operating system between Windows and Linux. This itself is an impressive feat considering MTNL is the driving force behind the project.
