AT&T India applies for telecom licenses in India

US based telecom giant AT&T has announced that their Indian unit has applied for licenses to provide services in the Indian market.

They are collaborating with Mahindra Telecommunications for this application filed for 22 of the 23 telecommunications circles.

Indian telecom market already has as many as 12 players and many more have applied to get their licenses.

Incidentally, three major real estate companies have also applied for the licenses. These include Unitech and Parsvnath Developers.

Mahindra representative Ulhas Yargop spoke about their partnership with AT&T: “The basic point is that AT&T wants to enter the business in India … obviously AT&T sees a big opportunity.”

AT&T is holding a 74% stake in this partnership with Mahindra Telecommunications.
