National-Do-Not-Call registry to be operational this October 12

National-Do-Not-Call registry is all set to be operational starting this October 12. With this the telecom customers in India would finally be free from the spam calls from call centers offering credit cards and loans.

TRAI had issued the orders for establishing this registry on June 5 this year and with this the Indian telecom market finally had a mechanism to control the amount of junk calls on mobile phones.

TRAI has stated in a release that already as many as 65 lakh subscribers have been registered in this directory through their own mobile service providers.

As per available data, number of registered members to this service divided by their providers are as under:

Aircel: 54,959 customers
BPL: 58,706 customers
BSNL: 1,57,489 customers
Airtel: 30,97,974 customers
HFCL: 28,730 customers
Idea: 822,387 customers
MTNL: 43,996 customers
Reliance Communications: 2,01,162 customers
Tata Indicom: 3,32,609 customers
Spice: 1,03,447 customers
Vodafone India: 16,19,863 customers

This number is expected to grow even further as more people realize the benefit of this service.

    DO NOT CALL REGISTRY — its crap…I myself registered my vodaphone numbers on websites but after that also Vodaphone SMS, Pre-recorded calls, ICICI, HDFC and prmotional sms and calls are coming to me… Is there any checks after that..? NO
    Still people are getting disturb in meetings, night sifts and even in office work hours.. SO what is the use of it ? TRAI should check also….
