This is So soothing to even hear that someone had taken a step further on Tata indicom's which provided the "Worser than the worst" service!

i had such a bitter experience with these people..that i even dread the thought of trusting anyother service provider for post-paid connection.

Good job dude!

Regs
Priyankha

FYI, I sent in this email:

Hello,

I recently watched the CNN-IBN show "All About The Money" which did an
item on VSNL/Tata Indicom broadband internet problems of a customer,
and it mentioned your contact information to write about our concerns.

I am writing this email to bring to your attention the general poor
levels of broadband internet service in India today, and I hope you
may be able to take some steps on the behalf of broadband subscribers
all over India to improve the situation.

Broadband internet service costs are high and quality is very low
compared to various other countries across the globe.

For a standard speed 256 kbps connection with unlimited data transfer
(like BSNL's DataOne Home 900 UL package) we pay Rs. 1000/- per month.
Compare that to countries like US, UK or Australia, where they pay
about USD $ 50 for anywhere from 2 mbps to 10 mbps speeds which is
double the cost but more than 10 times the speed.

To compare in terms of "purchasing power", the cost of broadband is
roughly 15% to 25% of a person's house rent in India but in other
countries the cost is only 3% to 5% of their average house rent!

Another issue is that internet ISPs in India have packages with
limited data download amounts, for example only 1 gigabyte upto 5
gigabytes per month at speeds of 256 kbps. At that speed, a person can
finish his download quota within 1 or 2 days and is left high and dry
for the rest of the month, or is forced to pay extra to continue
downloading!

I believe TRAI is also to blame because they have narrow-minded
licensing policies which charge some entry fees and license fees based
on a percentage of revenues which prevents the ISPs from lowering
prices and competing like they do for mobile telephony.

I hope these concerns are addressed by you (by perhaps bringing it on
mass media for general awareness, or contacting TRAI on our behalf)
and also by the telecom companies as well as TRAI to improve the
broadband situation and bring it up to international levels of service
and quality.

With best regards,
Vishal Rao
