Arun Sarin comes to India to settle $1.7 billion tax liability problems
Voiding CEO, Arun Sarin is coming to India today as the company faces a $1.7 billion tax liability from the recently concluded Hutch-Vodafone deal.
He is expected to meet senior government official during his stay here in India.
Government officials have said that the company is liable to pay the tax as they should have deducted tax at source before making payment to Hutchison.
The Indian IT department has already sent a notice to Vodafone asking for around $1.7 billion in capital gains tax.
Sarin had said at that time: “We are working with the Income Tax Department to sort this issue. Neither the Essar Group, nor Vodafone, nor Vodafone Essar is liable to pay taxes. It is the seller who should be taxed; and the seller is not one of the parties represented here.”
