BSNL considering entering CDMA segment
Government owned telecom company BSNL has said that they are considering plans to enter the CDMA mobile service segment.
This announcement comes after the government allowed mobile service providers to use dual technology on a single license.
BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Kuldeep Goyal said in a statement: “We are in the process of discussions for offering CDMA mobile services across the country… a decision would be taken in the next one month.”
Reliance Communications has already announced their plans to start offering GSM services in the coming months. They are the market leaders in the CDMA category.
Incidentally, BSNL already has a minor presence in the CDMA market with their fixed wireless and limited mobility service under the Tarang brand name.
