Sify Broadband 32kbps+ shared connection

Update2
I have tried there new excuse. I did not download anything during the night. Kept my computer shut down. Turned it on at 12 noon. And I still do not get anything close to the specified speed. Forget the already hidden limit of 75megs per day.
Update
This is much better. Just got a call from the Sify Customer Care representative from Chandigarh. He just cleared many of my issues. The shared packages are designed in such a way that if the usage on a particular day exceeds 75megs, the speed is lowered down to 28kbps. Well, this fact still does not explain why the problems with my own connection last between 10 am and 10 pm. Nevertheless, I get something to check now!
Well, I have little to complain about if this indeed turns out to be true. My only grudge about this is that, they DO NOT MAKE IT CLEAR on the package pages. So, well… what they do not tell you, I am here to tell you!
And it also does not explain why the stupid sify broadband login client logs me out randomly every 2-3 hrs or so!
16kbps at day + 48kbps night = 32kbps overall
Sure, it sounds like minimum 32kbps speeds, which would in technical terminology means speeds greater than 4KBps. But considering it’s Sify Broadband… It still means:
You are getting varied speeds while using the connection through the
day. This will be there as your current package being a shared one on
which there is no commited speed. You are getting speeds between 2
kbps to 5 kbps.
But the fact is that my speeds (during the day time… the time when I have the problems) are between 2KBps to 3.5KBps. 5KBps does not even come in the picture.
On your second query on whether you will be getting a higher speed on
the 48kbps package . Yes definatelely , as these being packages where
we are commiting a minumim speed which you will get . Although , at
times it is bound to fluctuate , for which you will also agree with me.
So practically, the minimum speeds are not even guaranteed in the 48kbps pack. I can still be stuck with 2-3KBps when I upgrade. So, why should I upgrade!
My response to the customer care mail:
Varied speed I agree would happen considering this is a shared package.
But the package says 32+. WHich in my opinion means the speeds would
vary but would be above 32kbps.Even if we take varied speeds in to considerationg. they does not last
for moments or minutes. They last for the WHOLE DAY. and magically
gets better between 10pm and 9am. this is not something that happens
just like that due to shared connection.it seriously does not make sense to me that some guy on my network
starts to download exactly around 9am and shuts down his pc at around
10 thus taking away certain capacities of bandwidth that could have
gone to me.why do i get constant speeds of above 4KB even reaches 7-8KB at night?
no one around here surfs around at night? hard to believe…i just want to get this in writing from you. what speeds would i get
MINIMUM at day time and night time on the 48kbps pack. if i still get
betweek 2-4 KBs during the day time just because that connection
itself is shared, i wont in any way upgrade. coz i get good enough
speeds at night time where i can do what downloads i want to make.
So, this is what you get (the best I could manage) from a connection labelled broadband, and comes with speed ratings of 32kbps+ during the day time

now that my renewal is due in 2/3 days, I again lookup CLOSELY at the price master, saw this 128K raat wala option, looks exciting given I mostly get hold the machine by nine only. And to tackle Sat/Sun, something of a 32+ acc to work during daytime.. the cobination cud be a killer. A much better option than to go for a 48+/64+ option and comes comparitively cheaper too… any1 tried it yet? the 128 wala?

yeah the same combo makes a lot of sense to me. but i am a 24×7 man :( so i need decent speeds at reasonable rates all the time. and considering sify is giving 7-8KBps at nights. i would go for the 48kbps package next month… maybe it will get a bit better. 4KBps all day and nigth long is what i need minimum.

Hey guys lissen i finally got a brainwave as soon as i posted my last comment.look anyways it is certain that we arte not doing any good taking out our frustations on these message boards neither are we doing ourselves any justice so why not we try to do something by which these ass***** finally see what we are getting at if you kno wat i mean.you see calling them up on their helpline or complainging about issues regarding crappy speeds dont help so why not we ty to do some creative work like start a petition against sify and show them their flaws by comparing them to other broadband networks like hathway,Xactnet, speed melon, sixth sense.these networks are sooo amazing.SIfyu is like totally bullshit.ok heres my idea.everyone who has problems with sify pls leave you personal contact numbers here so we can communicate our problems and find a suitable solution.calling customer care is USELESS.they dont do shit and all they say about spped is that they have not mentioned a specific speed.now my number is 9821050255 pls leave as many numbers as you can and we’ll think of a way to get back at them>AND YES THE 75 MB limit is really TOOOO MUCH

This site is so great! I haate Sify Broadband with a passion. I have the “unlimited downloads” package.. but it’s sooo friggin slow.. i pull at like 3-5 kbps if i’m lucky.. and its always logging me out!! Whats up with the stupid dialer thing? Why does one have to log in and out of broadband? isnt it supposed to be always on?? grrr i just get fuming mad when i think about it.. and the worst part is.. i use a mac and if you think their general customer support is bad.. try talking to them about their mac client. They wouldnt even talk to me on the phone coz i had a mac like 3 months ago. Why cant we just have normal, fast, unlimited downloads, always on broadband internet like its supposed to be? Someone told me speed melon offers all that.. i just sent them an email for an inquiry.. time to ditch sify once and for all..

I am under the shared 48kbps+ pack of sify now. I was really pissed off when I got to know that there is a limit on the downloads. In spite of their good service, sify’s customer care division, really frustrates me. When I call them for any problem, what I get is a sweet “Thank you Mr. So & So”. Nothing else. There is no technical person to assist in solving problems. All they do is make sure that they convey their gratitude for a user, keeping mum about the problems faced.
When Sify had the interest in updating the tariffs in the web pages and in the pamphlets distributed, care is not taken to ensure that the conditions of a plan are put down explicitly. I don’t even know whether it is legal to impose a condition that is not stated anywhere. The day after I had booked and “paid” for my connection they called me up for telling me about the tariff increase. Know what “I paid them without a squeak”. They shouldn’t have asked me in the first place as I had finished acquiring the package. Only the installation was left. Sounds as if Maruti can impose a new increase on the price of a car after the user has purchased it and is ready to take it home. I complied with them because of the cheap connection tariffs. And now all I get for such a good gesture is a shocking info after 15days of purchasing the connection, about the hidden limits. Why isn’t the company showing any interest to update such limits in its webpage? Anyway, I am continuing with Sify, mumbling all the time. I am now shifting to the 128kbps night unlimited plan, fro mthe fourth of next month.

Ha guys why are you all blabbering about the broadband connection , what you can do is install Internet accelerators or speed tweeks and you will get speeds of 64-90kbps from a 32kbps unlimited line use a good download accelerators, let it download all night and give option to shutdown automatically, and tell me if you find good results you can mail me, this is the way you can make the best use of the so called 32kbps unlimited.

Hmmm Ive been following this broadband issue for some time now. Problem is that we are forced to live in a country where the ‘idiots’ running it will keep it a 3rd world country. That way the rich get richer and the poor die.
I use powersufer and honestly its not great. But to an extent it might be better than other providers. 64k shared. I usually get 5+Kbps downloads almost throughout the day. Sometimes touches 6 – 7 Kbps. It used to work great till reliance took over. Now its screwed up. They have a stupid login software that slows down the latency (ping). This has affected my gaming serverly.

Sify broadband is by far the worst service that you can ever get since they have let out the cabling or let me say subscription etc and serviving to local cable operators/ppl having fancy stores or cool drink shops etc. Where can i go and explain severe packet drops to ppl like them when the idiots in their call centre always ask a 12 hrs ( and it usually takes 48 to 60 hrs time period to respond).
While it works i cant blame them coz they are doin reasonably well on a comparitive basis but THAT SELDOM HAPPENS. So on the whole it is Still the worst service that i have ever noticed!!!
