Airtel to now target rural markets for growth
Bharti Airtel has announced that they are now going to target growth in the rural markets in India.
The company already provides mobile coverage in around three lakh villages. They are now aiming to expand this coverage to 6.14 lakh villages over the next two to three years.
Incidentally, Bharti is also working on launching their DTH and IPTV operations in the market in the coming months.
Bharti Airtel president and CEO Manoj Kohli said in a statement: “Even while going for a big push in rural connectivity, affordability will be a major plank for Airtel in villages.”
The company also added that they are aiming to have a subscriber base of 125 million by 2010.
