Sify Customer Care is living in Denial

I have been facing issues with the Sify Broadband Login Client since last few days. It logs me out randomly for no particular reason. So, as usual I sent a mail. And well, since they have made it pretty clear that they don’t guarantee minimum speeds on their shared packages (have speeds 32kbps+, 48kbps+ and 64kbps+), I did not complained about the speed issue. And here is a mail I got from them along with my replies. And most of their claims sounds like they are living in denial or they have got customers in another world, where customers are happy and satisfied. If you are a Sify Broadband customer, please leave your experiences in comments and I will forward them to the concerned Sify Broadband Customer Care representative.

> Dear Susubh ,
>
> While the products are provisioned to give you speeds as defined , you are
> aware that the speed experienced is a nett result of various factors
> including the site you are trying to browse and its performance / load etc
> of these variables, many will be outside Sify’s purview .

So, I try downloading from 10 different servers. I try visiting 10 separate websites. Over a period of around 1 week. All of them give me same speeds, which were less than the speeds labeled on the package. And this lasts for the duration of the entire day time not for certain moments or minutes. And everything automagically goes alright at 10 in the night. Does not look like normal behavior to me.

My sample example was RedHat fedora Linux with around 15 mirror servers being picked randomly as per speeds. During the day (10am to 10pm), the average speed I got was 2.5-2.7KBs. During the night (10pm to 10am), the average speed touches 6-7KBs. This cannot be due to server issues from where files are being downloaded. In fact I should have got better speeds during daytime considering America sleeps during day time, if it indeed was server’s issue. Looks to be more like Sify’s issue to me.

>
> But , when we are committing a certain sped to you on a pack , we ensure you
> are provisioned to get that much speed . Of course the terms of commercial
> usage etc will apply whereever valid .

Already clarified. I do not run a cyber cafe from my house. I write articles and reviews. Run few Blogs and now a forum for Sify users. Sometimes I do some offline freelance work and upload using Sify’s package… for these uploads, if you have a problem… i can purchase a separate package that permits commercial usage if uploading files for small freelance projects comes under commercial usage.

Through my Sify Broadband Blog and forum… I have seen how good Sify is serving its customers around India. Check mouthshut.com Sify broadband section… If you think, I am biased and criticize you for no apparent reasons.

No i am not affiliated with them.

See the above link and you might get a clearer picture.

My last 2 mails were regarding your new desktop client. Which has the habit of stopping my net to work after every few hours even if I am sitting online or downloading something. You had made it pretty clear in your last mail… that Sify do not have a minimum speed guarantee on shared packages. Something that I would suggest you should highlight on the package rate pages.

And to continue on my last mail… I was again logged off 2 times between my last mail and now.

Also, about speeds. Today was the first day in almost 2 weeks I got decent speeds during daytime. I am not sure, if it was a favor or the problem on my net line was fixed… but if it stays like this… I am thankful to you.

Regards,
Sushubh

Update: The fixed speeds lasted for just 1 day. Sify is back to its usual under promised speeds… Bravo Sify! Your consistency in being a pain in the ass to the customers is reaching legendary heights.

Everytime it rains down goes the connection. And every night around 11.30 I cannot surf. I am now having a dial up connection with customer care as what I am doing is trying all the time to connect to customer care and greeted with music !!!!
I had enquired about possibility of radio WAN to avoid cables and while I received a very polite letter I also got an offer for a subscription unit costing around 50000+ Rs which I think no home user would even dream of using.
If Sify really wants to improve it better install radio WAN’s and get out of the CTO mess.

  2. Sushubh | October 3rd, 2004 at 09:51 am

The CTO actually told my mother to tell me to get that 50k connection if I expected a reliable connection. And later he told the same thing in front of a Sify representative. I should have get that in writing to post here.

    So, this is what happens…

You want reliability, you are told to get the 50K connectivity.
You want speeds, you are told to get an expensive package.

    Nice going… :|

From the days of dialup we have graduated to cable internet by several hickups. Competition in this field is not worth mentioning. Unless the technology, changes and become more trust worthy we cannot blame these slender intellectuals. They are more programmed to respond in passive style.

Sify is the worst possible service. it does not work most of the times when one needs it. The complaint service is perhaps the worst - i have yet to come across one worse than this. They should be sued by users to wake them up from sleep. They are theives of the first order.

SIFY connection sucks!!! Their call center people are not even trained to speak properly (leave aside their technical aspects) and most of the time these people don’t even know what they are talking. My connection wouldn’t work due to issue and problems which would defy any retional/logical way of internet connectivity theories…. the error msgs would keep changing from time to time and most importantly the solutions offered by the CC people are incredibly stupid, most of the time. And all the time I asked to speak to ay person incharge, I was denied with a msg that someone will contact me soon which never happened. Now I am planning to take up some other connection as SIFY is a nightmere when it comes to reliable high speed broadband connection. With this kind of customer relations, I doubt if SIFY will be able to survive long.

I have had very bad performance with SIFY broadband. I canâ??t believe company like SIFY is giving such horrible service.
I have problems with connection every alternate day. The local cable operator always gives me problem.
I hate sify for following reasons.
    1. I’m not able to keep the internet connection continuously on using my router. I have to switch on the computer to logon to SIFY network. If someone is able to do it please reply to avinasht1@yahoo.com
    2. I have lot of problems in connectivity. The network at local cable operator (SLV networks) is down.
    3. Browsing speeds in evenings is extremely slow.
    4. Sify’s Technical customer care sucks. They have zero knowledge about connectivity.

Now, I’m planning to change my broadband connection. Any pointers to good service welcome. Please mail me at avinasht1@yahoo.com.

I have a 128 kbps umlimited two-month subscription. But the strange part is I cannot surf at night. After 11.30 PM or 1.30 AM, the connection just dies! Its like I have an “daytime surfing only package”.
I have contacted customercare five times, but got no reply. The CTO passes the buck and asks me to call sify. I am regretting the fat that I selected this pathetic ISP. What am I supposed to do? I want to take legal action against them. Any suggestions?

your support is terrible. I’m regreting that I chose sify, more than that I regret, I’ve paid for a six month 64Kbps, unlimited pack. I’ve paid Rs. 600/- more charged by the service provider for his service. and the service sucks. forget giving service on time. he is not even able to resolve my problem for last one month. If you’re unable to solve my problem, I demand a refund of full amount that, I’ve paid. I’ve been sending constant mails to customer care. Only thing i get in response is interactid. Are you going to compensate for the period lost due to your problem. If my problem is not resolved in next two day, I intend to take serious action.

Its been frustrating delaing with SIFY. From past 3 months I have had connectivity only for around 30days. Customer care is not technically sound at all. They dont know basics of networking also. I get so frustated that I go along with them to debug the problem. After a week or two the connectivity again goes down. I’m frustrated with SIFY and have decided to go for a different service provider. I now have Airtel and I’m extremely satisfied. The speed is excellent and much better than Sify. Its been a month since I took airtel and there was not even a minute of downtime.

    ALL SIFY USERS

I have gone through each one of the 24 responses on the comments page and realise Sify’s service is nothing close to the superb service offered by BSNL.

If ROI is what we all are looking at just swap to BSNL’s broadband service - every thing is amazing about the service, to start with unimaginable speeds + the call centre support is great.

Atlast a govt owned entity is delivering!!!

I am a highly dissatisfied client of SIfy broadband. It is the worst service to get. There is no prompt action taken despite of several complaints lodged. I am sure other service providers do a much better job in terms of customer satisfaction. Not only the internet rates of sify are high, the quality of their service is extremely low. Every other week my internet does not work and it takes them atleast 4-5days to resolve the issue. Despite of making innumerable calls, no engineer or any other help is provided. I beleive the sify technical team and the customer service are untrained and are just enjoying the salary paid out of the pockets of their customers.I would never recommend sify to anyone and if the sify problems still persist, i will get the services of another internet provider.

The last mile service in June 2005 to October was hell. I have a broadband connection at home (for 2 years)which would invariably be out of order every weekend. The service was so bad I thought they had a problem with me until I found your site. The good news however is that I have had no problems for the last 3 months - except that inspite of reminding them five times to come and pick up their payment ( for renewal) no one has come so far. I had a DSL Dishnet connection earlier (for 2 years) but believe me they were worse than sify. I have another Hathway connection which is comparable with sify - except that in Hathway customer service never responds - they simply have a tape recording whenever there is a problem that they have a problem which they are sorting out!!!

Today I have coplited my first one month of sify high speed internet services and I will suggest all of friends and people who access internet for theire own important perpose, kindly never connect with sify the most worst service i have ever experince for last one month .

I have booked complaind 4 times in a month (invest 300rs only for phone call )but issue not resolve , even i sent all the log that I am getting huge drop in my local gateway my dowload speed 175bytes (where as sify providing me 64 kbps CAR, so atlesr 6 kbps dowload speed expect) , every time customer care people give a fake number , and become relaxed .

For last two days (now the time for renewal comes ) am getting 12 kbps download speed not a single drop in gateway .
Where as the sify technical guye every time asked me there is virus on ur PC , but am not a normal internet user , am also a technical guye and working in TULIP as a MPLS network engineer.
for last 3.5 yrs am working in varous ISP like TISL,VSNL ,Primus so i have littlebit knowledge about networking .

Finaly I just inform the service we people expected from sify , they are failed to provide.

I am using sify high speed internet for last one month , and that period , what I have suffered I can’t explain .

Just want to inform people don’t use sify internet anytime.
They have collect 500 rs for installation and 495 for 64kbps unlimited family packege , I think I just waste my 1000 rs.

If there is any real technical guye from sify end can explain how they are running network .
In 64 kbps CAR they given 250 byte download speed , i think 56 kbps modem we connect through normal pstn line it will give us much more download speed.

Now I have decide to switch to bharti or VSNL , people am just writing due to other people not suffer in future .
This is customer oriented era and there is no place for those company who can’t fulfill their commitment and services like SIFY.

I am also having series of problems with Sify. I may be regarding the quality of connection, uptime or may be billing issue.

I regret the decision to go with Sify.

I am Sify Broadband user from Pune and the problem I am facing is it opens open the sifymax.com webpage and any other web site is tried it gives me a DNS error. I reported this to the customer care, one person visited to provide support who does not understand how to start a computer also. I use google.com it opens the site and any search is tried I get a DNS error.
I use to browse properly when I was using Windows 2000 professional OS and a Pentium III computer, I am facing these problems when I bought a new computer with Windows XP OS and Athlon 3500 processor and MB PC.
I tried contacting the customer care several times and only two times the call is attended with no solution. I agree with others experiences that browsing in night time is pathetic experience (with my old computer). We are charged for 256Kbps connection and the speed is around 5 to 6Kbps. Even in the morning times it does not provide more than 18 to 20Kbps speed. With my new computer in place I am not able to browse at all with DNS error. I think this is a setting issue and no one is able to provide the solution to the same. Thanks to the problems aggravated using Windows Xp and Sify broadband.

The customer care personnel call up promptly to remind me to renew my account every three months but are not prompt in solving the problem.

I am using Sify broadband in Rajkot. I have plan of 64kbps
worth Rs.511/- per node. I have got this connection before
1 month. But I am frustrated from Sify.
I am facing many problems since when i have got this connection. The major problem is Antivirus. If I dont want
to use antivirus with connection, how can they let me use forcefully. Any antivirus makes system very slow. I want to use internet with my responsibilities and conditions, but they are not responding. I never need to use antivirus.
I know how i can secure my pc’s from viruses. I can’t connect internet without antvirus. And second is its website http://www.sifymax.com. Everytime when logged in, this site is opened. I dont want to see this site.
Now its enough……I am tired……This is a worst Internet service provider. They are saying its 64kbps speed. I have had 128kbps DIAS BSNL with which, I could share in 7 pc’s. That was better speed than its 64kbps.
    Sify is totally RUBBISH…..!

    Hello everyone..
what I understand from this blog is that sify has had a history of poor customer service and an even poorer technical team..Friends,I am also a Sify Broadband user..
rather an aggrieved user…cause my broadband is not working from the past one week…15 phone calls and several chat sessions later all I have is a crap complaint number..
The truth is that sify has failed in its commitment to provide Quality “broadband” to its customers..for that matter no private broadband operator in India have lived upto our expectations..However,I see that our very own BSNL/MTNL has been able to provide a reasonably good and reliable broadband service at half the price …
My suggestion to all who want to switchover to Sify is that dont expect much..This is India…No one is going to treat you like king…If you want broadband go for BSNL or MTNL or wait for one more year till Reliance comes up with its version…Happy Surfing!!!

I am a highly dissatisfied customer of SIfy broadband. It is the worst service to get in this competitive environment where all other services are at best and sify is the worst.

This was the greatest mistake made by me to take sify braodband service…………..its reallyy frustating in all the ways………..

For a country like India that is supposed to be ahead in IT etc., Sify being an indigenous Indian company, is nothing but a disgrace to our country. Inspite of the innumerable complains posted in a number of forums and websites, they seem completely disinterested in improving their service. They seem to be living in a world of their own. Sify provides pathetic customer service, bad connectivity, they have no refund or reimbursment policy. They will deduct one days internet access if a customer crosses the 150 mb limit, however they will not reimburse the customer for any downtime caused by their sub-standard network and servers, no matter how long the downtime may last. But at the end of the day, Sify is not the only one to blame for such pathetic service, but regulatory authorities like TRAI etc. are also responsible for turning a blind eye to the situation. Lack of a proper monitoring system and no communication channel for consumers to approach the regulator is what let’s companies like continue ripping their customers off.
