Internet access disrupted in India and Egypt

Egypt, India and Gulf Arab countries are facing issues with internet connectivity due to a breakdown in the international undersea cable network.

Egypt has said that it could take several days before normal connectivity is restored in these countries.

Egyptian ministry added in its statement: “This cut has affected Internet services in Egypt with a partial disruption of 70 percent of the network nationwide.”

Egyptian telecoms ministry added that they are not sure whether the problem is due to cable damage or weather issues.

Rajesh Chharia, president of the Internet Service Providers’ Association of India confirmed the issues faced by internet users in India: “There has been a 50 to 60 percent cut in bandwidth.”

He added: “The big operators have transferred their small broadband connectivity through the Pacific route, and that’s the reason there’s no hue and cry in the country.”
