My story with Sify Broadband began in December 2003. I shifted to Chandigarh from Faridabad and as a result from TouchTel DSL to Sify Broadband. It was painful. The net was unreliable. The speed sucked. CTO (Cable TV Operator I believe) rarely responded to calls. And when they responded they lied. I had to pay money to linesman to do stuff that should have been in place before they started my net connection. And at this moment, I am supplying power to the pole nearest to my house. I do not mind the last part because it enables me to reset the closest switch in case it hangs. This process required 2 phone calls and 2 hours (to Sify Broadband people) before I offered the power supply!

After 5 months of struggle, fights and zillions of phone calls (included STD ones to Delhi :p ), it finally works. It is reliable (28/30 days it worked fine last month) and speeds are respectable to the package I have. I get calls on a weekly basis from the Sify people verifying the status of the connection and problems are responded to fast. Maybe this Blog helped me get there coz I now have a fairly decent idea that someone in the customer support reads it! But in the end it works so I am happy. My only problem is the lack of speedier connection packages with unlimited data transfer facility at an affordable price. Some users of Sify in other cities get 2-3 times the data transfer they are supposed to get! I would love to get that thing too. Maybe I am just a bit more demanding.

The bottom-line about Sify is that you need to have a decent CTO. If you are one of the unlucky ones, knock at the doors of the Sify people. Tell them that your CTO sucks. Sify chose the easy way out; you need to make them aware of your problems. If you have no other alternative connection in your locality, try getting your CTO to learn some lessons. As I tried with this…

This Blog is a compilation of my experiences with the people associated with Sify Broadband and other stuff related to internet and broadband in India.
