Tata Communications has announced that they are hiring the services of Telsima to develop the infrastructure for the WiMax network in India.
Tata is building this network to provide WiMax powered services in around 110 cities in the Indian market.
The company claimed that when this network would be complete, it would become the largest commercial WiMax network in the world.
Shankar Prasad, president of Tata Communications’ Retail Business unit spoke about their deal with Telsima: “The Indian broadband market, which today serves only 3.1 million customers in a nation with a population of over 1.2 billion, is forecast to grow significantly.”
For starters they are going to target these major cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, Chandigarh, and Kolkata.
