Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to launch EmoticonSMS Service

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is collaborating with RealNetworks to bring a new service named EmoticonSMS to their customers.

The two companies said that this new service would be made available by the end of the year.

When the subscriber signs up for this service, the text messages sent through the service would get turned into relevant emoticons using keyword recognition technology.

They would be able to choose from up to 4,000 emoticons across 500 themes.

Jay Kim, vice president (APAC and Music Business) of RealNetworks said that the service is aimed to make traditional SMS more engaging and fun.
