Apple iPhone in India through Vodafone in September?
Market sources say that Apple is closing in on a deal with Vodafone to bring their Apple iPhone in the Indian market.
The launch could take place this coming September.
Apple is likely to bring the 8GB model of the iPhone in India at a price of around Rs 27,200 – Rs 28,000.
Currently the only way Indian mobile users can use an iPhone in India is by unlocking it.
Apple would look at the response to this edition before launching the higher end 16GB edition.
However, it is very likely that they would have launched a 32GB edition in the international markets by then.
Apple has stated in the past that they aim to bring the iPhone to Asia within this year. China and India are two of the biggest mobile markets in this region.
A market source was quoted as saying: “The carrier deal for India is being worked out with Vodafone. Vodafone could also become the carrier for the Australian market once iPhone is launched there, though more than one carrier is likely for Australia.”
There is also a distinct possibility that they might bring the unlocked edition of iPhone especially when they can sell it here for a good premium.
With no iTunes store for India, Apple would not be making much revenue from the customer after the phone is sold. This is going to trouble them if they indeed launch the unlocked edition.
